Saving for What?

This morning we asked Jack to go get some money from his piggy bank for offering. He asked if he could skip, and we could just give him money because he wanted to buy something with his. We went on to tell him that it is a good thing to give, even if you want something or just want to save the money. Howie was telling him how we give too, and then asked, "Why now, Jack? What are you saving for?" He said, "I started saving last week for an iPod." We almost fell over laughing, and Jack got so mad at us. It's funny because he was playing the Wi at a friend's house the other weekend, and of course, wanted the system for our house. Howie and I had a long talk with him on the drive home about how we are not going to spend money on video games and electronic stuff. We told him how family vacations and outing are far more important to us. Then he told us how he really wanted an iPod because Ian has one that he loves to play with. It was then that Howie told him, "Well start saving your pennies, son, because we are not getting it for you." It makes his offering way more special, and someday, if he saves enough, the iPod will be special too. He has about $2.56 saved in his piggy bank.

By the time he saves $5.00 I could probably get one for him on Craig's List!
